Detention Camps in France. Even before the invasion of France by Germany on 10 May 1940, the French government ordered the internment of Sinti and Roma in detention camps (Camps d’Internement de Nomades). Such camps were set up in both the German-occupied and unoccupied zones. The last camps were not closed down until 1946.
