Persecution in the Occupied Benelux Countries. On 10 May 1940, Germany invaded Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. In occupied Belgium, to which northern areas of France were annexed, deportations of Sinti and Roma to the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp took place, as they did in the occupied Netherlands. Individual cases of such deportations are known from Luxembourg.
