Königsberg, German Reich, 1939. Königsberg, which was ceded to the Soviet Union after 1945 and has since been renamed Kaliningrad, was the capital of the German province of East Prussia. Sinti and Roma living there were interned in a detention camp from 1938 and deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp in 1943. Only a few survived.
