Roma from a resistance group in Ostrov (Pskov oblast), German-occupied Soviet Union. The date, place and names of those pictured are not known. Many members of this group were later arrested and executed. Their children were deported to concentration camps.
Many Roma were active in the Partisan movement during the Second World War. They often joined the groups living in hiding in the forests after their relatives had been murdered. While it was mainly the men who fought with weapons against the German occupation, women and children took on important tasks to supply the units and the dangerous work of scouting.
