In Spijkenisse, Netherlands, survivor Theresia Wagner identifies a girl in a photograph taken during the departure of a deportation train from Westerbork camp on 19 May 1944. For decades, the photograph of the girl with the white headscarf was considered a symbol of the Holocaust. Wagner informs journalist Aad Wagenaar that the photograph shows the Sinti girl Anna Maria ‘Settela’ Steinbach. She was deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp with her mother and nine siblings and murdered there.
