Scope of application

This data protection declaration is intended to inform the users of the website with the domains encyclopaedia-gsr.eu and encyclopaedia-gsr.com in accordance with the Federal Data Protection Act and the Telemedia Act about the type, scope and purpose of the collection and use of personal data by the website operator, Freie Universität Berlin, Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS), E-Learning, Research, Multimedia, Ihnestraße 24, 14195 Berlin.

The website operator takes your data protection very seriously and treats your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the legal regulations. As new technologies and the continuous further development of this website may result in changes to this data protection declaration, we recommend that you read it again at regular intervals.

Definitions of the terms used (e.g. ‘personal data’ or ‘processing’) can be found in Art. 4 of the General Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO).

SSL encryption

In order to protect your transmitted data in the best possible way, we use SSL encryption. You can recognise such encrypted connections by the prefix ‘https://’ in the address line of your browser. Unencrypted pages are marked with ‘http://’.

No data that you transmit to our SSL-encrypted websites—for example when making enquiries or logging in—can be read by third parties. However, please bear in mind that data transmission on the Internet can always be subject to security vulnerabilities. Complete protection against access by third parties is not possible.

Access data

The website provider, Freie Universität Berlin, University Library, Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS), Ihnestraße 24, 14195 Berlin, automatically records in the log files created by the server the website you have visited, the page from which you came to us (in the case of search engines, also the terms entered), date, time, the operating system you are using, characteristics of the display you are using (resolution in pixels as well as the so-called pixel ratio for the recognition of ‘bad’ pages). Furthermore, the size of the transferred data volume, a so-called HTTP status code (e.g. to identify a successfully transferred web page) and the IP address of the accessing computer (e.g. PC or smartphone) are stored, whereby this IP address is immediately anonymised by deleting the last octet of this address.

The collection and use of the information stored in the log files only serves the anonymised evaluation for statistical purposes (e.g. to analyse the usage behaviour, which pages of the web offer of the above-mentioned site or sub-domain are accessed, which browsers are used, etc.) and thereby to improve our services. The IP address is not assigned to the user ID. It is not possible to assign the evaluation results to a specific IP address.
