Alman Rose (1922–1942), murdered in the Niederhagen/Wewelsburg concentration camp. Alman Rose, born in Paradies, Meseritz district, Germany, was arrested in Stettin in 1941 and deported to Sachsenhausen concentration camp. On 22 or 23 October 1941, he was transferred to Niederhagen/Wewelsburg. He regularly wrote letters to his parents in which he asked for warm clothes, among other things. They received one last sign of life from him in December 1941. The last message was a telegram from the camp commandant stating that Alman Rose had died of ‘acute cardiac insufficiency’ on 5 February 1942.
The photograph comes from an identity card from the early 1930s, which his sister Adelgunde Rose made available to the Wewelsburg Memorial. She was a survivor of the Ravensbrück and Buchenwald concentration camps.
